November Blessings

November Blessings

As we come back from Thanksgiving break, I would like to take this opportunity to share my gratitude with our LJSD families.  Although there have been several challenges we continue to face — a lingering pandemic, unfinished student learning, historical growth, increased absence rate, Guest Teacher shortage, controversy, etc. — our District’s families have always agreed upon the core focus — EVERY student matters!  The common goal and support for our students has truly been a blessing our staff does not take for granted.  Our parents continue to reach out to staff to offer appreciation for their dedication to always doing what is best for students.  The LJSD is truly a special place to be. I sincerely hope you had the opportunity to enjoy your family and take a break from the daily demands of our lives during Thanksgiving.  Thank you for supporting the District and working together to provide the best education for each and every one of our students — we could not do it without you!               Much gratitude for the LJSD family, Dr. Meyer, Superintendent

Annual Parent Survey

Parents, it is the time of year when we ask for parent feedback.  Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer these questions so that we may best serve your family’s needs. We appreciate your time and support – Thank You, Dr. Meyer

Thankful for our Child Nutrition Employees

Much gratitude to our wonderful Food Service employees who cooked over 500 pounds of turkey, 100 gallons of gravy, 80 gallons of carrots & baked cinnamon apples, and 2500+ dinner rolls.  All Child Nutrition employees at each site, as well as the off-site cooks, helped ensure our LJSD students had an amazing Thanksgiving feast at ALL 12 schools.  We are very grateful for your efforts in making this meal special for our students.

Mountain View High School Students Serving Our Community

Readers Become Leaders Event

“Friends City” is a book designed to help 3rd grade students learn about their city and how cities work together with students. It comes complete with work books, word searches, dot-to-dot activities, and STEM activities to assist with problem-solving techniques.  Thank you to Spirit Lake Mayor Elect Jeremy Copperthwaite and Police Chief Dennis Sanchez for coming out to read this book to our Spirit Lake Elementary third graders!

Plein Air Art Award winner Lindsey Johnson from Timberlake High School

Art students at Timberlake High School are lucky to have Lindsey Johnson for a teacher.  Not only is she creative, artistic and well versed in many skill sets, but she takes her love of art to a whole new level by competing personally in Regional Plein Art Competitions.  Plein Art describes the act of painting the great outdoors.  She recently received an Honorable Mention Award from the Moscow Contemporary Art Gallery; some may formally know it as the Prichard Gallery.  Timberlake students are lucky to witness her love of the outdoors and her love of art come alive in her classroom on a daily basis.  We are lucky to have you as a teacher Mrs. Johnson!

ACRAO Winner Carrie Paquette

Lakeland High School is #8 in the State for FAFSA completions amongst our senior students.  Carrie Paquette, our College and Career Advisor at Lakeland High School, is a BIG reason for this!  She truly epitomizes the District’s motto, “Where every student matters!”  She makes it a point to meet with EVERY senior student to discuss postgraduate education/vocational work/military options.  She also explores grant and scholarship opportunities with her seniors. She built her own website to help students stay connected to the most current information.  She works tirelessly to ensure students/parents are aware of ALL opportunities available to them.  It’s no surprise that she was recognized in 2017-18 and a second time in 2020-21 as the ACRAO (Idaho Association of Colligate Registers and Admissions Officers) winner. Lakeland High School and LJSD are proud of you!

Technology Integration Bright Spots

In order to recognize staff members as they continue to grow and learn in the area of technology integration, the Technology Department highlights out-of-the-box thinking and bright spots throughout the District. Each quarter staff members can apply or be nominated by a colleague for their effective use of technology in the classroom. The team reviews the applications and recognizes staff who have increased student engagement and achievement through technology.  Quarter 1 Bright Spots are: Adam Porath-LHS, Jennifer Buccowich-TMS, Ashley Rogers-SLE

Veterans’ Day November 2021

Card Board Challenge

Our 4th annual Card Board Challenge was once again a HUGE success!  Many happy faces and brilliant creations were on full display as the Lakeland Middle School Cafeteria was transitioned into a kid-friendly workshop on the night of Oct 27th.  It was a magical evening watching families working together as students were inspired to dream and build amazing creations.

Parent Focus Group

A Bold Promise for Students in our Region

Innovia Foundation would like to invite parents to a 2-hour focus group with other parents from school districts across Kootenai County. Your voice is vitally important to achieve a bold vision — bringing an entire community together to ensure that every student has the opportunity — and support — to pursue post-secondary education and succeed in completing that education. Parent voice will be key. Focus group participants will share their unique perspective and insights about:

  • Why they/you choose to live here
  • How they feel about the education their child is receiving
  • What their hopes/dream are for their child after high school
  • If they feel that their child is being prepared for that aspiration
  • What they would suggest can be done to better support  young people and their future

This process will provide an opportunity to shape what this initiative will look like for our region. Parent VOICE is an important part of this process. Focus group responses will be confidential, and findings will be shared with all participants and the community in early 2022.

If questions, please reach out to AMY VOELLER, North Idaho Regional Engagement Manager at (208) 771-0174.
