Schools out for Summer!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This will be my last Edublog as Superintendent of the amazing and wonderful Lakeland Jt. School District 💝.  I have been extremely blessed to have worked with the kind, generous parents, the respectful, gracious students, and the dedicated, compassionate staff over the last six years.  It has truly been an honor to work alongside you for the betterment of students each and every day.  What I have appreciated most about the parents in the District is your modeling for our youth – you are generous and giving people that truly care about our community’s families, shown not just in words, but in constant action.  I have been inspired and amazed many times throughout the last six years as I watch our families reach out to support each other through trials and tribulations that might break a lesser community.  The families in the LJSD are strong and demonstrate a level of kinship rarely seen in a community this size.  Lakeland is truly a family and anyone lucky enough to work or have children in the District are truly blessed.  I am sad to be leaving this amazing District, but know you are in the best hands moving forward with Mrs. Lisa Arnold at the helm.  I will forever cherish my time in the District and wish you all the very best.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve the last six years – Much Gratitude Always, Dr. Becky Meyer, Superintendent of Schools

2021-22  LEVY Funds

End of Year Accountability Report

Dear Parents and Patrons of the Lakeland Joint School District,

For our District to be healthy and continue to perform at the exemplary level, we need to maintain a strong support system within our community.  Consistent, accurate communication is key.  We strive to maintain transparency and keep you informed through our monthly Edublog, frequent parent messages, and, as promised, a twice annual Accountability Report on how your levy tax dollars are being spent.  If you are new to our District, you are welcome to review all past Accountability Reports on our website:  sd272.org

I have been honored to serve as the Superintendent of this amazing District for the last six years.  Our District’s academically rigorous educational program, strong safety and security measures, fiscal responsibility, high ranking graduation rates, and exemplary staff are just a few of the reasons I am so proud to have worked in the Lakeland Jt. School District – it is truly a special place.  Unique to surrounding areas, while our world faced unprecedented challenges through the last two years, our District was a shining example of individualizing education to meet student needs.  Not only were we able to  develop and offer a fully online educational option for K-12 students, we were one of the few districts in the state that continued to provide in-person learning at all 11 schools, 5 days a week all year!  Thanks to an unparalleled strong school–home partnership, our community came together to maintain the focus on what was best for students.  While we maintained our instructional integrity throughout the pandemic, there were still gaps in learning for students.  As you will see in the following report, we fulfilled our mission this year: maintain and reinstate our programs/projects the voters approved with the levy dollars, increase staff to assist students, and add programs to support our students with unfinished learning.  EVERY Student Matters!

Thank you for the opportunity to serve the last six years – it has been an immense blessing and I appreciate all of your support through the years,   Dr. Meyer, Superintendent of Schools

Summer Book Club

We are gearing up for Summer Book Club with our kick off Thursday June 16! This program is part of Lakeland Literacy Project’s Family Literacy Program and is open to all families in the Kootenai County area.  Parents and their students will work together to enjoy a great book, learn how to foster an acquisition of reading skills, and help our students develop a life-long love of reading. This is a great opportunity for parents to read with their child and participate in rich student-led discussions of fiction. We are excited to surprise you with another great book this summer! Our suggested ages vary depending on your reader, but generally 3rd grade to Jr High school students would enjoy the book club.  Every Thursday, beginning June 16 – July 21, 2022.   We offer two different schedules for families to choose from: 11:30- 1:00pm or 5:30- 7:00 pm.

Meals and materials are provided.  Register Here

Friendly reminder about our Free Summer Meals Program for all children 18 and under. This will be held at Lakeland Middle School beginning June 20 – August 19.
